Creating topics is the first skill to learn in updating the help system. Luckily, it is quite simple to learn, although a few details must be attended to.
First, decide where to add the new topic. This should not be difficult, as the organization of the help system mirrors more or less the organization of the IFs program itself. When the location has been determined, click on the icon with the question mark on the upper-left corner of the Robohelp dialogue box. Another dialogue box appears. Two important details are dealt with at this point: giving the topic the appropriate name, and creating the topic in the appropriate document. The names of the topic usually correspond to the name of the feature in the IFs Program, followed by either Standalone version or Web version, depending on which version of the IFs program is used. The document to locate the topic in depends on the location of the feature in the IFs program. For instance, the addition of a help topic about a new Specialized Display feature should be located in the Display document.
If the developer needs to move the topic after it is created, the easiest way to do so is by using the arrows on the left side of the Robohelp dialogue box. If the user needs to move the topic between documents, the user must delete the topic and create it anew in the appropriate document.
